what is employment equity?

The Employment Equity Act of 1998 was passed to ensure equal opportunity in the workplace. The main focus of the Act is that companies should create a positive environment for people from various backgrounds and cultures, with the goal of equity in the workplace and implementation of affirmative action.

Businesses have to eliminate unfair discrimination and redress past disadvantages of designated groups to ensure they are represented across diverse occupational categories and levels in the workplace. Businesses that employ more than 50 people or have a total annual turnover that is equal to or above the applicable annual turnover threshold must implement EE Plans and compile EE Reports.
